Books are the ladder of human progress

On the afternoon of January 18, 2022, our newly established "Xianwei Reading Club" successfully held the first reading sharing activity in order to embark on a new journey for Henan Xianwei Law Firm, as the cold weather sets in and the clouds brew snow. Su Shi once said, "A rough cloth wraps around one's life, and one's belly is filled with poetic and scholarly energy." The original intention of establishing the "First for Reading Club" was to broaden one's horizons, dispel doubts and improve personal cultivation through reading. At the same time, through every sharing, it strengthened communication and exchange among lawyers, collision of ideas, and joint learning, making every lawyer a warm, interesting, and thoughtful person.

In this book sharing, Director Li Yan of our institution shared with lawyers the personal biography of US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bard Ginsburg (RBG) - "The Moment of Dissimilation.". This book not only records the wonderful cases that Justice Ginsburg participated in during his career to drive the judicial process in the United States, but also provides a wonderful review of the extraordinary life of this Justice.

Reading Club

Ruth Bader Ginsburg(March 15,1933–September 18,2020)was nominated by President Bill Clinton as the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court in 1993,becoming the second female Chief Justice of the Supreme Court after Sandra Day O'Connor.Ginsburg devoted her whole life to the fight,maintenance,and protection of gender equality rights,questioning laws that define gender.Her objections in her judgments directly point to the essence of the problem,rewriting the history of the American equal rights movement,gradually constructing the concept of gender equality,and promoting the transformation of American justice.

"Becoming a lady and maintaining independence"is the expectation of Ginsburg's mother and the belief she has always believed in and practiced.Ginsburg's demand for"equality"is not about providing privileges to women based on their gender,but rather giving them basic respect.She devoted her entire life to fairness and justice,gentle yet not weak,resilient but not extreme,diligent but not rigid;Smart yet courageous in expressing dissent,these are the most precious qualities of a person.At the end of the sharing session,everyone also watched some exciting clips from the documentary"Female Justice Ginsburg RBG"about this legendary justice.
